UNDERSTANDING TRUTHAn Experience with Reality

The Ubuntu Lab is planning an experience to spark a conversation.

An exhibit about the nature of truth, its role in our society, the opportunities it presents, and the current shape it has taken in public dialogue around the world.

It will present perspectives on its historical, cultural, and conceptual meaning and application. It will invite visitors to co-create the experience with experts, engage them with what is fascinating about this philosophical construct, and spark interesting conversations.

WHY AN EXHIBIT?

WHY AN EXHIBIT?

Exhibits feed a different part of the brain than the way most young adults consume their information. It does not hand you answers or opinions, it asks you to discover your own; it does not exist at the periphery of one’s attention, it is encompassing. This kind of exhibit leverages four important learning tools...

Informal Learning

This is not a lecture or a book. This is fun, this is interesting, this is a space filled with simulations and screens, and up to the minute ideas and information.

Immersive Design

By making it experiential, the visitor is captured by the bits that resonate with them. these hold their focus for a moment so they pay attention, reflect, and integrate into their world view.

Inquiry

It is based around great questions, not clear answers. Inquiry based learning appeals to our curiosity, asking learners to enter from an open-minded point of view.

Visitor Activation

We intend to activate our visitors. They may feel moments of pessimism, or discomfort, or, but we will leave them in a place of inspiration, capability, and agency so they can go out and change the way they engage with the world.

Audience

We will engage an audience of young adults in the San Francisco Bay Area who are actively engaged in social and civic life and see the value in building common ground.

Journey

The exhibit will take this audience on a journey of discovery, playing the role of guide, not authority. We want the path to be a little outside of the visitors comfort zone, sometimes confronting, sometimes comforting, sometimes participatory, and sometimes reflective. We are curating an experience where the journey is as important as the destination.

Space

The space will serve as a provocative backbone for conversations, filled with screens, simulations, art, and multimedia elements to bring the content to life and ensure it is both participatory and radically contemporary.

Events

The space will also serve as the backdrop for a series of invite, ticketed and free events to allow people to interact with big thinkers and doers in this field

Experiential Learning

We are creating and curating an experience that will lead visitors on a journey of discovery. Experiences create authentic, relevant, and lasting learning.

Blended Use of Technology

We will use technology as a tool, but it will not be the star. We will have blended implementations that encourage an interpersonal interaction.

Radically adaptable

We want the exhibit to reflect what is going on in the public discussion today, so content need to be able to be updated regularly and we will need to design a workflow to easily and routinely update the content to reflect the zeitgeist.
