Truth

TRUTHHas the world turned upside-down?

Has the last year of your life left you feeling like you're taking crazy pills?

Do you find yourself asking:

  • what is even real anymore?

  • Which scientific discovery is going to prove the impossible is possible?

  • Which political leader is going to tell you that reality is what you feel it is, not what the evidence says it is?

  • Why is the media trying to feed me opinions as facts?

  • What is the difference anymore between fact, truth, belief, opinion, faith, feeling, and logic?

Its time to reclaim truth and its importance in our lives.

Truth is Important

In 2006, satire brought us “truthiness” as the word of the year. This was a warning wrapped in a joke; if our gut says it’s true that’s good enough.

In 2016 “post-truth” was named word of the year. Political figures across the world framed debates on appeal to emotion, where facts weren't even disputed but rather ignored outright in favor of belief.

In 2026 will the word Truth mean anything at all?

Words Mean Something

If we are careful about how we use the word “truth” it means “that which is true or in accordance with fact or reality.”

But instead “truth” has become synonymous with: belief, logical idea that I agree with but have no evidence of, a generalization I am making from limited data, perspective that makes me more comfortable, worldview blinded by privilege, what the talking heads said this morning, and, and, and...

Common Ground

Truth is the ultimate common ground, but it has become the thing that divides us.

By taking a moment to explore what it means for something to be true, what the role of truth is in society, how it can affect us as individuals, and why it is important to use the term carefully, we can begin to have a new conversation.

And through that conversation we can rebuild the common ground we have lost, making room for differences in beliefs, perspectives, and experiences.

And when we have that, we can build a future together.
